1. Digital libraries

Digital libraries are created by scanning, converting, importing and classifying documents, creating an interface, making a CD-ROM image and printing the CD-ROMs.

Main features:

  • Created using open source & public domain software (www.greenstone.org)
  • Fully searchable
  • Documents can be classified by different metadata
  • Compatible with Win98/2000/XP/Win7/Win8/Win10; Linux versions can also be created
  • Can be packaged as stand-alone CD-ROM or as intranet/Internet server
  • Web browser user interface
  • The CD-ROM is self-copy-able on hard-disk if needed
  • The intranet/Internet version can be installed as fastCGI or ISAPI application

See examples of digital libraries on the Main projects page.

2. Digitization projects

Digitization projects usually consist of two phases:

  • Scanning of all documents, straightening, cleaning and optimizing each page to create image PDFs
  • Performing OCR (Optical Character Recognition) and spelling check on the PDF documents in order to ensure a high accuracy of the text, and to obtain small size files so that pages become easily searchable.

After extensive tests, we reach the best format to preserve the integrity of the document and, at the same time, facilitate browsing of these documents: searchable text PDF documents.

The end results of this digitization:

  • Facilitates research within the database and within the documents by making them available electronically over the Internet, on CD etc, including a search function in the documents, creating references, copying quotes etc.
  • Inspires countries and regions to apply the same methodology with local documents/research papers.

3. Toolkits

Toolkits designed to inform, educate, empower and strengthen competencies and capacities of individuals from different areas of expertise. These toolkits include multimedia materials: text, images, sound and video, interactive animation, etc.

Main features:

  • Can include multimedia materials: text, images, sound and video, and also interactive animation
  • Documents can be classified by different metadata
  • Materials can be fully indexed and searched using a basic search engine
  • Lessons can include interactive exercises
  • The modules can include documents, lessons, tutorials and test forms
  • Can offer different learning paths according to the user’s knowledge level
  • The modules support multilingual interfaces
  • Can be packaged in a stand-alone CD-ROM and does not require installation
  • Flexible navigation between pages and lessons

4. Training / e-learning Platforms:

Within the framework of UNESCO’s activities to build the capacities of specialized and local communities and as a contribution to the open educational content movement, the Human Info Romania has been granted the opportunity to participate to the expansion of the Open Training Platform before and after its official launching. The main tasks consist of constantly revising and editing resources added to the Platform and of searching for other valuable training resources that would later on be included in the Platform.

The Open Training Platform may be customized in order for networks and communities (specialized, local, etc.) to have their own capacity building resource sharing portal. The customized OTP will be re-designed with the network name and logo with jointly agreed look and feel options at different cost, depending on the selected type of customization.

In order to be as accessible as possible, two customizations services are being available:

  • The Standard Automatic Customization service by which the network/community may benefit of a distinct tailored platform with a filtered OTP database according to the specific of the community/network.
  • The Advanced Customization service is a more flexible solution which offers the possibility of choosing and adjusting existing categories tree from the OTP, creating a totally separated database of resources, adding new categories or new features on the platform etc.

At request, editorial support can be provided once that the platform is up and running.
